PRESS RELEASE The Mexican Mud Band, a staple of the northeastern independent music scene, continues to crank out energetic and innovative original music. This New York City group combines guitar driven funk-rock with driving rhythms such as dance-hall reggae, hip- hop, and the D.C. go-go beat. Tight arrangements of the Mud's colorful tunes are complimented by adventurous improvisation and acid-jazz horn solos. The Mud Band creates an environment well suited to the NYC clubs, college bars and roadhouses they know so well. Their music speaks to that diverse, burgeoning group often referred to by the catch all phrase Generation X. The concerns of this amorphous group are addressed in the songs of this band, who know whereof they speak. "Cable Ready" describes the relationship between a slacker and his T.V., "Procrastination" assures you that there is no time like tomorrow, and "Nuthin' but a Party" sums up the bands attitude towards the whole live show. The band was formed while the guitarists and drummer attended Syracuse University in the late 80's and early 90's. The Mud first played at college parties and fraternities, then at the S.U. campus bars and then at the neighboring colleges of Cornell, SUNY Oswego, the U of Rochester and SUNY Albany. The Mud moved to NYC after the drummer graduated in 1992 and entrenched itself in the NY club music scene by playing regular gigs on Bleecker Street, in the East Village and at clubs such as the Wetlands, New Music Cafe and A.K.A. The Mud's first album "Don't Hold Back" (sold out - 2000 copies) was compiled from 5 upstate NY college gigs recorded in the spring of 1992. This was followed by the May 1994 studio disc "Now With More Salt" recorded with the help of multi-platinum producer Peter Denenberg. N.W.M.S. established the band on the college airwaves, landed the band a management deal, and led to a national distribution deal with Dutch East India. The band is currently taping live performances on digital multi-track machines for the forthcoming indie release "DUCK". With the aid of inexpensive, portable digital recording equipment, the Mud Band can get its pumped live feel on tape, incorporate its unorthodox studio production techniques, and come up with high quality underground recordings - ain't technology amazing? Regional Touring Monsters: The Mud have played over 250 shows in the past 2 and 1/2 years, including openers for such bands as: The Violent Femmes, the Spin Doctors, Soul Asylum, the Screaming Trees, and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, as well as a myriad of headline gigs at northeastern colleges and nightclubs. The Mexican Mud Band is also an integral component of the NYC Jam Band scene, playing constantly in New York with bands such as Milo Z, Xanax 25, The Authority, the Bogmen, and God Street Wine. Radio Airplay: "Now With More Salt" continues to make the CMJ charts. The single "Mayor's Daughter", was featured on Guidewire Radio, a nationally syndicated alternative radio program. The whole N.W.M.S. disc receives consistent & devoted college airplay at many northeastern stations.
